Restructures around direct response and brand marketing

LONDON – Adconion Media Group (http://www.adconion.com/uk/index.html) confirmed a restructure of its UK business and announced the launch of its two digital distribution platforms (DDP); Adconion Direct and Joost.

Announcing the launch, Matthew Hunt, Adconion Media Group’s UK Managing Director commented that the development of the two digital distribution platforms sends a clear signal to the market that Adconion has truly evolved from the traditional ad network business model.

“Adconion Media Group has built a reputation as one of the most successful independent global audience and content networks but we look at our achievements to date as the path leading to today’s announcement. Adconion Media Group is now an integrated digital marketing services organisation, with platforms that distribute content and advertising to three out of five people in the UK across display, email, video, connected TV, mobile and social channels. We have proprietary technology, a comprehensive range of products and services and have the team, expertise and scale across these channels to deliver leading solutions to the UK’s most demanding advertisers.”

“Advertisers today are extremely knowledgeable when it comes to understanding the complexity of multi-channel advertising distribution depending on whether the goal is to promote direct response or to broadcast a brand. As a result, skills, services and product lines have become more specialised and we have restructured accordingly.”

“The industry is experiencing radical change as media buying becomes more automated across multiple digital mediums. The game is changing and we’re proud to say we are ready and are ahead of the curve.”

Adconion Direct is a Direct Response DDP, which merges Adconion’s Audience Network with Adconion’s email solutions and social marketing capabilities. The result is a dedicated multi-channel solution that supports all pricing metrics and offers advanced optimisation and targeting technology. Data integration builds profiles of audiences for tighter targeting and connects campaign assets to the audience, re-targeting in real time, with behavioural recognition and response underpinned by Adconion Media Group’s optimisation engine and new social algorithm. The right audience is identified across multiple digital channels including display, email and social; and the right creative is selected to drive purchasing intent within that channel.

Joost is Adconion Media Group’s brand marketing DDP and operates on a separate platform. It brings the online properties and significant audience base of the video network and portal, together with the reach and scale of the Adconion advertising network and the creative resources of RedLever. The result is a dedicated multichannel platform supporting in-stream video, in banner video, premium display and rich media, mobile, connected TV combined with our in house creative services team. Joost is specifically developed to shift brand metrics and prove that television is no longer the only effective medium for reaching, engaging and affecting consumer mindsets.

Both DDPs will set new standards for brand protection through third party verification via AdXpose and Truste, compliance as a signatory to the recently announced European EU Framework for Behavioural Advertising and IASH standards across every campaign.

Adconion Direct and Joost will sit alongside Adconion Media Group business units RedLever and Adconion Platform Services. RedLever is a branded entertainment and creative production house specialising in sourcing, developing and negotiating sponsorship and funding agreements for high quality and entertaining content, while Adconion Platform Services allows third party use of Adconion Media Group’s proprietary technologies and workflow systems and licenses them for use.

ABOUT ADCONION MEDIA GROUP

Adconion Media Group is an integrated digital marketing services organisation with platforms that distribute content and advertising to three out of five people in the UK across display, email, video, connected TV, mobile and social channels. Adconion Media Group has a single minded proposition; to become the world’s leading content distribution and monetisation platform.

In the UK we deliver brand and direct response marketing results through having operational focus across four distinct businesses: Adconion Direct is a digital distribution platform for direct response marketing, Joost is a digital distribution platform dedicated to building brands, RedLever is a digital studio and Adconion Platform Services is an enterprise technology services business.

Globally Adconion Media Group (www.adconion.com) is one of the largest independent global audience and video content networks, reaching over 325 million unique users – or one-quarter of the total global Internet population – every month. Adconion has 16 offices in 8 countries around the world, is a member of the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and is a founding member of IASH Europe.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Adconion Media Group (www.adconion.com), the largest independent global audience and content network, introduced the Joost Video Network, a complete suite of online video advertising products and services. The Joost Video Network will provide agencies and brand marketers with global in-banner and in-stream video advertising capabilities, including pre-, mid- and post-roll video advertisements, with expert targeting and scale.

“As consumers continue to spend more time online – and more time watching video online – agencies and brand marketers have more opportunities to use the power of video advertising to build brand awareness online,” said Nick Higgins, director of global video, Adconion. “With the Joost Video Network, agencies and marketers can design targeted campaigns that run exclusively against premium content on premium sites, and leverage the experience and power of our network to find targeted audiences and maximize the value of their campaigns. Adding this product offering gives Adconion a distinguished position among ad networks, as we are the only provider with in-banner and in-stream capabilities; an exclusive relationship with a branded entertainment studio; in-house creative services; and a video portal, Joost.com, that we own, operate and sell exclusively.”

The Joost Video Network streamlines Adconion’s entire video advertising product line, from pre-, mid- and post-roll video ads to a variety of in-banner video advertising executions, into one product line. All Adconion products, including the Joost Video Network, take advantage of Adconion’s proprietary ad serving and targeting technology. In addition, the Joost Video Network delivers both pre-roll and in-stream campaigns targeted with BlueKai data, thanks to a unique global partnership with the world’s highest-quality online data exchange. The Joost Video Network is DoubleVerified and IASH compliant, ensuring all video ads run in brand-safe environments.

The product launch marks an important step in Adconion’s evolution, as it is the first product and service from the combined entity formed when Adconion acquired Joost’s technology assets in November 2009. Since the acquisition, Adconion has integrated its ad server with the Joost video player and is the exclusive video ad provider for Joost.com and the Joost video player in its embedded form.

In addition to global pre-roll and in-banner video capabilities through the Joost Video Network, Adconion has an exclusive relationship with the branded entertainment and creative services studio RedLever. Together, Adconion and RedLever work with agencies and marketers to develop compelling video content, from advertisements to webisodes.

The Joost Video Network will serve video ads on Adconion’s network of 2,000 premium publishers in more than 70 markets worldwide. In addition to Adconion’s extensive sales, account management and media teams, participating advertisers and marketers also have access to Adconion’s regional video specialists. The team, led by Nick Higgins, includes Cliff Paulson in North America and Stephen Hunt in Australia. Paulson has more than 15 years of media experience, most recently at ScanScout, while Hunt has more than five years of experience in online advertising, marketing and video. Adconion, which has aggressive plans to grow by nearly 50 percent in 2010, will add a European video specialist to its team this month.

Demir has published numerous articles on optimization methods and applications and filed a number of pending patents in online advertising solutions for search and display. At Adconion, Demir will be advising Adconion’s Science Team in designing and developing innovative targeting capabilities to best manage consumer experience and to provide better return on investment for advertisers.

RESTON, VA – comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, released its monthly analysis of U.S. Web activity at the top online properties for August 2009 based on data from the comScore Media Metrix service. Education sites gained as students headed back to school, while Humor sites attracted heavy visitation as many looked to laugh in the waning days of summer vacation. Home sites also grew as Americans sought to redecorate their homes, furnish new apartments, or harvest their backyard gardens.

“August is back-to-school season for students, and many turned to the Web to prepare for the upcoming school year,” said Jack Flanagan, comScore executive vice president. “Others made use of their last days of summer pursuing leisure activities online, including visiting humor sites and tending to their homes and gardens.”

Back-to-School Season Drives Gains at Education Sites
Back-to-school season propelled gains at education sites in August, with the category growing 10 percent to 97.5 million visitors.
The list includes the top 50 technology start-ups in Europe, the U.S., China, India, Israel and Russia that are attracting buzz and seem poised to grow beyond their respective regional or product markets.

The rankings are based on a YouNoodle Score – a 0-100 measurement of a start-up’s progress as an early-stage company. The score is based on a sophisticated algorithm using information from thousands of online sources: traffic, level of mainstream media coverage, funding, blogosphere activity, and other key factors.

Adconion has scored 64, making it the highest ranked European company on the list, ahead of Spotify (which scored 51); the score indicates that the company has experienced very strong growth (through traffic, funding or revenue).
Adconion, placed 18 in the overall list, is the only online advertising network to make the top 50. In funding terms, Adconion ranks 5th on the overall list with a total of $80 million (approx £49m) and has secured the most funding of any European start-up.

Tyler Moebius, Adconion CEO, says, “We’re really pleased to be the top ranking European tech company, ahead of big names like Spotify and Spain-based WiFi community Fon – both of which have generated a lot of noise in Europe. It’s great to see Adconion making waves beyond the online world; we hope to continue our successful growth through 2009 and beyond.”

Investor AllStars is considered one of Europe’s most prestigious venture capital awards events and has been called the ‘Oscars of the European venture capital community’. The awards ceremony is attended by more than 600 investment professionals from across Europe, including leading private equity houses such as Balderton Capital, Index Ventures, Accel, Advent Ventures, Atlas Venture, Amadeus Capital,
Wellington, and Credit Agricole.

Adconion was nominated for the award for having successfully secured $80 million (£40.9 million) Series C funding in February 2008, in what was the largest venture capital investment in digital media in European history. The funding was led by Index Ventures, which won the award for Venture Capital Fund of the Year in both 2007 and 2008.

Santa Monica, Calif. – September 30, 2008 – Adconion Media Group, (www.adconion.com) the independent global advertising network, today announced the launch of its new video content syndication offering, AMG-TV which allows creators and studios access to Adconion’s massive global network of publisher sites, advertiser and agency partners to broadly distribute and effectively monetize their premium Web video content.

Adconion’s launch of AMG-TV signals its innovative evolution from the traditional ad network model pairing advertisers with publisher sites, to a truly global distribution platform designed to monetize all types of audience-targeted, multimedia content. For Adconion’s ad agency partners, AMG-TV provides a scalable branded video solution paired with highquality original content and the ability to optimize campaigns across video, display and email. In addition, Adconion will provide advertisers and brands with a range of data on the performance of their campaigns and how new and existing customers are interacting with their messages.

Vuguru (www.vuguru.com), the Emmy®-nominated new media studio backed by Michael Eisner’s The Tornante Company, is the first production studio using Adconion’s AMG-TV to syndicate its new show Back on Topps beginning today. Back on Topps, a hilarious, behind-the-scenes journey into one of the world’s most recognizable sports companies, will premiere new episodes twice weekly online.

“AMG-TV is a boon to both creators and agencies and brings Adconion closer to fulfilling our vision of becoming the largest IPTV network by 2010,” said Tyler Moebius, Founder and CEO, Adconion. “We are breaking the stranglehold that YouTube and other video platforms have had on professional video creators and giving them broader, global distribution and a sales force dedicated to pairing their content with brand advertisers for greater monetization opportunities. We are essentially meeting Web video’s two greatest challenges to date: audience and monetization.”

“The partnership with Adconion’s AMG-TV will provide an optimal platform for Back on Topps to achieve an instant global footprint through Adconion’s network of publishers,” said Michael Eisner, The Tornante Company. “As Vuguru continues to create high-quality professionally-produced content for the Internet, it becomes vital to develop measurement platforms and distribution models that will help move the space forward.”

“AMG-TV offers agencies a one-stop solution that unites hard-to-find quality content with massive distribution for instantly scalable video campaigns,” said Keith Kaplan, President of North America, Adconion. “We understand that many of our agency partners – both digital and traditional – are not interested in sponsoring user-generated content, and we will continue to add premium branded video content that will be syndicated across our worldwide network of publishers.”

Adconion’s network reaches over 240 million unique users, or nearly one-third of the global Internet population, according to comScore.

About Adconion

Proprietary Technology and Relationships Enables Ad Agencies and Marketers to Reach Consumers Across Platforms

New York, N.Y. – March 6, 2008 – Adconion Media Group, the global independent online advertising network, today announced it has acquired Frontline Direct, a leading data management and direct marketing solutions provider for $20 million in cash and equity. Frontline has longstanding relationships with leading companies – including ConsumerInfo.com, Inc., an Experian® company and Reunion.com – as well as top interactive advertising agencies.

“Beginning with my days as one of the first employees of Avenue A and through the founding of Adconion the vision has always been to enable advertising agencies and marketers to reach the same consumer across platforms,” said Tyler Moebius, founder and chief executive officer of Adconion. “Integrating Frontline’s technology with our own and taking it global as part of our independent network is a significant step towards that goal.”

The acquisition of Frontline, including its proprietary data management technology, email products and 25 employees, fuels Adconion’s rapid expansion into North America, including the planned opening of a new office in San Diego; Adconion currently has offices in New York and Toronto in addition to North American headquarters in Santa Monica. Globally, Frontline further enhances Adconion’s offering of global performance branded solutions to advertising agencies and marketers worldwide, including audience targeting, video and email.

“Adconion arms agencies with the technology solutions necessary to compete in the evolving media and advertising landscape, and we recognize that audience targeting is an important element of campaigns that advertising agencies are designing on behalf of their clients’ brands,” said Keith Kaplan, Adconion’s president of North America. “Nevertheless, we are extremely committed to respecting personal privacy; we already adhere to the stringent European privacy standards and will continue to respect those high standards wherever we do business.”

“Adconion is technologically and strategically a natural partner for Frontline,” said Kim Reed Perell, chief executive officer of Frontline Direct. “As part of Adconion’s independent global network we can instantly enhance our existing offerings for our clients and enable them to reach a much broader audience both here in the U.S. and abroad.”
Frontline Direct was represented by KPMG Corporate Finance in the transaction.

New York, N.Y. – February 25, 2008 – Adconion Media Group, the global independent online advertising network which has established operations in three North American markets, today announced it has closed an $80 million Series C round of funding led by Index Ventures and existing investor Wellington Partners, the largest European internet media venture investment in history and among the largest for an independent online ad network.

In recent months, three year-old Adconion, which has existing operations throughout Europe and Australia, has assembled its North American management team from a roster of industry veterans responsible for creating and managing some of the world’s most-recognized Internet advertising companies including DoubleClick, MSN, Yahoo, IAC and Avenue A (now Avenue A/Razorfish). Adconion CEO and Founder, Tyler Moebius was himself a Series A investor and early employee of Avenue A. An undisclosed minority percentage of the total capital raised during this $80M round will fund Adconion’s continued global expansion throughout North America and Asia. The strategic decision by Index Ventures, which counts Skype, MySQL, Last.fm, Netvibes, Joost and Spot Runner among its portfolio of successful technology companies, to invest in Adconion was informed by the company’s unique value proposition to marketers seeking not only domestic, but global ad distribution through a single, independent network that reaches nearly 200 million unique Internet users worldwide (ComScore January 2008).

“At the risk of sounding cliché, the modern business landscape is irrefutably global in scale and that is due primarily to the opportunities created by the Internet,” said Moebius. “Agencies choose to partner with Adconion because their clients are likely in a position where doing business internationally is either business as usual or a strategic opportunity for growth. This generous investment from Index and Wellington will position Adconion alongside the portals on marketer’s short-lists for global distribution partners.” “Adconion has the relationships, the industry expertise and the best-in-class technology becoming of a future market leader in technology’s hottest growth sector,” said Dom Vidal, Partner, Index Ventures. “Our experience as investors in the advertising space enables us to support Adconion in continuing its rapid expansion throughout North America and to further build its global presence.”

“Tyler and his team have done an outstanding job building a truly global online advertising network,” said Frank Boehnke, Wellington Partners. “We are very excited to continue to work with Tyler and Adconion on one of the most exciting growth stories in the global marketplace.”
